cbc-whiteningIn today’s cosmetically driven world, whiter teeth is something many people desire and has therefore fast become one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures. After all, who wouldn’t want a beaming smile? The process of tooth whitening is known as Oxidation whereby organic materials are used to break down and remove staining. This process ultimately serves to lighten any discolorations within the tooth that be may due to various factors such as drinking dark-coloured foods/beverages, smoking or even genetics.

There are two main whitening options, ‘in-surgery whitening’ as well as ‘home whitening kits’. In surgery whitening, also known as ‘laser whitening’ involves the application of a high-strength whitening gel which may be activated by a laser. After approximately 15 minutes, the gel is removed and the process repeated another 2 times. Finally, any remaining gel is washed off and the final result evaluated using a shade guide and clinical photographs. However with such high-intensity products used, there is inevitably a risk of causing burns to surrounding gums/lips. After carrying out extensive research on the various options available, at CBC Dental Studio we have decided to offer a carefully selected tray-based tooth bleaching system called POLA. This advanced system offers the choice of either their ‘PolaDay’ or ‘PolaNight’ selections, according to the users’ personal lifestyle, preference and suitability.

What does the product contain?

It is a spearmint flavoured, crystal gel divided into multiple syringes for easy application and storage. This gel contains a unique blend of soothers, conditioners and water to reduce sensitivity. However both the ‘PolaDay’ and ‘PolaNight’ options offer varying percentages of their products, which is influenced by the composition and intensity of product.

How do I use it?

Firstly, individual dental impressions of your teeth will be made by your Dental Professional. Once your custom trays have been made, you will be shown how to place the trays in your mouth as well the how to appropriately place the gel and how often to do so.

How long does the process take?

Depending on your choice of whitening kit, either PolaDay or PolaNight, the average time taken to achieve whitening results is between 1-14 days.

How long will it last?

Just like most things in life, the definite outcome cannot be guaranteed. However if you try to avoid the factors that caused them to discolour in the first place, you are most likely to achieve a hugely positive result. However any time that you feel that you want to further enhance the current whiteness, just simply touch up your teeth for one or two days or nights, depending on your kit.

Is this treatment option safe?

Yes, it most certainly is. Bleaching with these carbamide/hydrogen peroxide products, under the supervision of a dental professional, have been clinically proven to be absolutely safe for teeth and gums.

What are the side effects?

There are no side effects to this whitening treatment for the majority of patients however, some may experience varying temporary sensitivity (to hot or cold). This should subside after a few hours of the whitening session although if it remains present, wear time can be shortened or made less frequent.
